THE STANDARD DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAMIC IDENTITY IN GRAPHIC DESIGN
FOR HALAL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Introduction:
Islam religion is a kind of human conduct principle which created by Allah, the Islamic single God, in 610 AD it was formed in Mecca City, Saudi Arabia. Similar to other religion, Islam is the way to seeking for the happiness, faithfulness, moderation, peaceful and moral.
The doctrines of Islam religion are faith, ethic and practice which the five elements are Islamic principles, Allah (Islamic God), Nabi Muhammad (Messenger of God), Muslims and Al-Qur’an. All Muslim believes in the only one God; thus, there is no other representation for them.
The Five Pillars of Islam is the term given to the five duties incumbent on every Muslim. These duties are Shahada (Profession of Faith), Salah (prayers), Zakah (Giving of Alms), Saum (Fasting during Ramadan) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). These five practices are essential to Sunni Islam, Shi'a Muslims subscribe to eight ritual practices which substantially overlap with the five Pillars; furthermore, every Muslim has follow The Halal, laws regarding which foods can and cannot be eaten and also on the proper method of slaughtering an animal for consumption. It is an Arabic term designating any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. It is the opposite of haraam. The term is widely used to designate food seen as permissible according to Islamic law. It is estimated that 70% of Muslims worldwide follow halal food standards.
There is some Academic Research in the application of Islamic principles, for example, Asrina Raeha (2004) has attempted to apply the Islamic religion to self protection of HIV/AIDS in young Muslims. There is a similar topic like Asrina did, but different target; Ratchaniwan Papanrueng (2007) has attended to find out for Thai crisis solution with Islamic principle. The last one is a different approach to Islamic principle; Kornkanok Puspakom (2004) published her paper to explain the marketing plan of islamic banking and financial support of Krung Thai bank. However, neither of these studies provides any descriptive evidence of The Islamic principle applied to Halal Products and Services. In the present paper, it is my intention to propose a practical standard to identify Islamic character for Halal Products and Services with Graphic Design Elements. My particular focus will be in the Islamic Principles and Islamic Art, and to challenge believes that some one had said, nothing can be the representations for Islam, particularly in Halal Products and Services.
Research Questions:
In Thailand, Halal Products appeared to consumer product with general personality packaging. There is only a mark for identify that Halal Products; there are no Islamic personalities and any graphic design or print media which represent Halal image. For this proposal, the inquiry is following two criteria:
1. How to apply Islamic principles to reflex the Islamic personality for Halal Products and Services.
2. What are the Islamic personalities that Halal Products and Services should be?
The research findings that answer these questions will be synthesized to the graphic design elements for Halal Products and Services, aim to establish the Islamic look; furthermore, to be find out the alternative signs or visuals for communicate its own style.
Methodology:
A qualitative research method will be use on this study to explore the conceptual ideas that support the graphic design process. Academic Research in the application of Islamic principles, Islamic Arts and Halal Products will also collect for research instrumentations. The participants for this study are Islamic principles expert, Thai Muslims or Imam, and graphic design expert. In order to, acquire an in-depth understanding and comprehensible view of The Islamic personalities for Halal Products and Services through in-dept interview.
Materials and Instruments:
The questionnaires will be use for the semi-structured interview and will ask permission before record. The materials also include the picture of Islamic Arts, a panel of graphic design elements and a group of sample sizes of different Halal Products Package. Three scenarios are design to create the three study fields. Each scenario is embedding with a particular mode of searching.
Scenario 1 explores the thought of Islamic principles.
Scenario 2 explores the process and application of Islamic arts.
Scenario 3 explores the images of Halal Products.
Procedure:
1. Data Collection process for the Academic Research in Islamic Personalities, Literature Review in Islamic Arts and Package Design Collection for Halal Products.
2. Research instruments providence, questionnaires which derived from literature review related to Islamic principles, Islamic Arts and Halal Products Package.
3. The in - dept interviews to Islamic principles expert and graphic design expert.
4. Data analyze for the Islamic Personalities, Islamic Arts and Halal Products Package.
5. Interpretation and synthesize to visual communication.
6. Conclusion for apply to Graphic Design concept and Graphic Design elements.
7. Write a design brief for the graphic design for Halal Products and Services manual book.
8. Design and produce the graphic design for Halal Products and Services manual book.
9. Exhibit and publish the knowledge of the graphic design for Halal Products and Services.
Analysis Methods:
This study is related to the term of Semiotics, Interpretation, Communication, Synthesis Thinking and Conceptual Thinking. I intend to interpret the Islamic principles, Islamic Arts and analyze Halal Products Package through the descriptive writing; furthermore, I also intend to establish Muslim’s marketing communication and consumer behavior of Muslims. The data will be analyzed for three criteria:
1. To infer the characteristic of Islam, what is its influence and how to apply them?
2. To infer the use of Islamic Art, what is it’s visualize and how to communicate?
3. To infer the graphic design elements that Halal Products Package has to used and how its images?

Women Newspaper Design
THE USE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN ELEMENTS FOR WOMEN NEWSPAPER DESIGN.

The objectives of this research are 1) to study graphic elements method that can illustrate personality of women newspaper and 2) to identify the desirable format of women newspaper.
The research methodology employed in this study is the questionnaire which derived from literature review related to newspaper, graphic elements method for print media design and twelve sample sizes of different daily newspapers. In order to acquire an in-depth understanding and comprehensible view of desirable for women newspaper design, graphic elements that related to that personality as well as other desirable elements for women newspaper, seven experts in editorial department and seven design experts were the respondents.
Overall, the findings of this research reveal that the most desirable personalities for women newspaper design are Modern, Chic and Natural. Each personality has significant graphic elements as following :
Modern : Significant elements of Modern personality comprises of
- Composition: The graduation composition which creates attractiveness by having an anomaly and outstanding structure. This in turn, creates focal point and dynamic movement.
- Color: Dark to black color that has narrow - limited hue coupled with bright color tone.
- Font Type: Round shape of Thai font style that has harmonious proportion and consistent stroke with the urban-polite look.
Chic : Significant elements of Chic personality comprises of
- Composition: The proportion composition with distinctive scale, having rhythm and concentration to create attentiveness.
- Color: Vivid and bright color tone with wide hue coupled with similar color tone.
- Font Type: Round shape of Thai font style with light and consistent stroke.
Natural : Significant elements of Chic personality comprises of
- Composition: The movement composition with rhythm that creates focal point by generating stand out and harmonious perspective.
- Color: Warm color with restricted hue that appears naturally eg. Earth Tone color coupled with gradient gradually step by step.
- Font Type: Free form Thai font style with inconsistent stroke.
In addition, it is found that the crucial factors of desirable elements of women newspaper are
- Size: Tabloid size (12 × 15 Inches)
- Number of Pages: 16-24 pages
- Number of Topics: 1-4 topics/ page
- Type of Printed Paper: White pond paper
- Type of Contents: 10 types as stated in alphabetical order. Daily News, Economics News, Education News, Entertainment News, International news, Political News , Public Health News, Scientific News, Social News and Sports News.
- Type of Columns and Documentaries: 16 Types as stated in alphabetical order.
